Home Decorating is Fun To Do and Saves Money
Everybody gets tired of his or her same old spaces. Home decorating is a fun way to give your home a facelift, and it can cost as much, or as little, as you want. The time it takes to complete a decorating scheme or project is completely arbitrary too. You have a lot of control when to do your own home decorating.
A lot of people think they need some kind of training or education to do their own home decorating. Not so. If you have a little fashion sense, you’ve already got what it takes. If you can put your clothes on in the morning with style, there is nothing to worry about. Home decorating is no different.
People will say they have no flair for colors, textures, and trends, but there is hope for the fashion-less. Start learning the lingo now and you will already feel more confident.
Let's Get Started!
Start with an easy one. Colors: The days have passed where you had to adhere to any sort of color rules, or be flogged in the town square. Anything goes, and it is your home, so make it yours, and make it something you like. Get out your box of Crayons and pick out your favorite colors. That’s right, the ones that appeal to your inner soul. Browns, reds, pinks, yellows? Pick 3 or 4 colors. Plunk them down on the table. You now have your personalized color scheme.
Scheme: Your scheme doesn’t mean anything except putting a little thought into the kinds of things that interest you. You like those colors. Do you like modern looking stuff, retro stuff from the ’70 or the old, worn, antique look? Commit to a home decorating scheme and use the lofty word often during your project. It makes people think you know what you are doing.
Composition: This is an artsy word that you will simply love throwing around. It really makes you sound intelligent. The composition is nothing more than some forethought into how all the gears in the cog mesh together. Does that gothic, grim reaper, wall hanging really belong in the baby’s room? Use a little common sense, and use it with a little thought for each element of your home decorating scheme.
Element: This is another artsy word that sounds very cool. It is an easy one to find usage for, as well. Every pillow, every rug, every vase is an element. If you picked a purple crayon, go out and buy a purple pillow. Declare, “The composition required a pillow,” and you, “decided to make it the purple element,” in your scheme. You should be getting the hang of it now.
Texture: There’s no problem here, this is always the touchy, feely of things. It is a showy word that is not used in most conversation, but it is truly a very important element of your home decorating composition. It is good to note though, that texture does not always have to be tactile or pronounced. It can be subtle and it can be strictly visual. People love it when you say things like, “The vines in the wallpaper pattern add a delicate textural element to the composition.” For the real kinesthetic sensory piece, your purple pillow can be hairy faux fur, or elegant purple velvet. Decide which you like and stick to it. Attitude is everything.
Personal Style
Okay you have a little jargon, now here are the ground rules. This is home decorating and you are the only one who has to like it, and live with it. You can do anything you want, but make sure anything you do is done deliberately and with attitude. Practice a few sweeping hand gestures and reflective postures, and amaze your friends and family with how well you decorated your home.
